Atelier di Battista

Urbino, Italy

In the Marche region of Italy, along the Adriatic Sea, lies a walled city rich with history. Urbino is a historic Renaissance city built on and surrounded by rolling hills, making it's geography unique. Today, it is filled with students, attending the Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo (University of Urbino). From 1444 to 1482, Federico da Montefeltro ruled as Duke of Urbino. His second wife, Battista Sforza, was the Duchess of Urbino from 1460-1472. Today, by the center of Urbino's city, is an association that focuses on the study, design, and reconstruction of historical clothing. Atelier di Battista researches historic paintings, texts, and rediscovered items to reconstruct clothing that those from the 13th and 14th century wore, specifically Urbino court fashion.
