The Women at CDOT video series highlights those individuals working in different fields across CDOT’s five regions. From fossils in Cañon City to construction on Floyd Hill, this series delves into some of the different careers, projects and experiences that CDOT has to offer.
Sara Schmidt
Engineer-In-Training III
Region 1
Sara has worked at CDOT for almost three years, and previously worked on the Central 70 project in Denver. She is now East section lead on the Floyd Hill construction project near Idaho Springs, Colorado. Making a positive impact on the community is Sara’s favorite part of working at CDOT. With a background in geological engineering, Sara enjoys working around geohazards and using soil nail walls, and sculpted shotcrete which is common to be used in the mountain corridor.
Nicole Peavey
Paleontologist

Nicole is an Environmental Protection Specialist and talks about the importance of having a Paleontologist at CDOT. She shares her passion for finding, preserving, protecting, and teaching about fossils along CDOT’s roadways throughout construction.

Transportation Maintenance
Region 3
From fixing guardrails to plowing snow, these employees work together to keep our roadways safe. They discuss the great variety in their jobs, their beautiful work environment and their biggest challenges.
Abra Geissler
Professional Engineer
Region 4
Abra is currently the I-25 program engineer and the I-25 Segments 5 and 6 project director. She discusses what influenced her decision to pursue engineering and her favorite aspects of working at CDOT.
Danielle Wilkinson
Environmental Protection Specialist
Region 5
Danielle works to preserve Colorado’s water quality and natural beauty at active construction sites. She stresses the importance of protecting Colorado’s waterways through revegetation and erosion control.
